The Death of the Stage School Protege

The introduction of reality television must be a complete nightmare for all those parents living hand to mouth paying for their little darlings to go to the likes of Sylvia Young and Barbara Speaks stage schools. From the age of three some of these little darlings are being groomed with talent being extracted almost dentally from their little bodies, living, breathing, sleeping and eating the industry with dreams of becoming a star. The industry has always favoured a specific look, size and colour to which the little darlings have worked all their lives to achieve.

I had always believed that the television and film industries were over run with talent but with not enough jobs available, many were turned away; but what now of the new media luvvies? The very untalented general public. These start from reality stars such as Big Brother and span to the children of the talented. And to add insult to injury, there is the talented that haven't specifically trained for the fame and fortune, the winners of X-Factor and the likes.
How are the stage school darlings coping with the competition? Is there any point in attending stage school, it's not cheap, I sent my son to Sylvia Young on a Saturday for a couple of years in the mid-nineties at £150 per term for singing, dancing and acting. This didn't include kit, equipment or entrance onto their books.

Will this mean the death of the stage school? What will become of the industry and the millions of drama darlings, I mean we did get most of the cast of Grange Hill & Eastenders from stage schools. There is also Billy Piper, Keira Knightley and the infamous Bonny Langford (curly ginger hair and awfully squeaky voice). Will the television only feature the untalented?
Look at the US for example, hasn't Britney done well from her stage school upbringing? Talent personified!
